ABOUT USIt all started with the Horse Thief
Back in 2013, no one would have called Barb Phillips a lawbreaker. And yet today, she proudly answers to a title no one else can claim: the Horse Thief.
Saving Gracie started not with a massive vision but rather a single incident — one that has come to define the determination, grit, and spirit of our small-but-mighty nonprofit.
It was the moment that Barb realized 100+ starving animals were living just miles away — including a very special horse named Gracie — and the moment she decided to do something about it.
The issueWhy do horses need rescuing?
Each year, thousands of horses across the United States are subjected to dangerous, abusive, or neglectful environments.
The causes are diverse, from well-meaning owners who can no longer afford proper care to profit-seeking “kill buyers” who purchase horses at auction and send them abroad for immediate slaughter.
Each horse’s life circumstances are unique — and at Saving Gracie, their rehabilitation plan is, too.
